If you're based in the UK, you’ll most likely want to set up your 20% VAT so that the breakdown is shown on statements and receipts. The prices you’ve added within the Prices tab are likely to be inclusive of this cost. However, if you’re in the USA, you might want to list a 5% sales tax and a 5% lodgings tax, neither of which are included in your prices – thus are an exclusive tax. You can set all of this up in the Taxes section.

  1. Go to Accommodation then Taxes .
  2. Click Create a new Tax Rate.
  3. Enter the name of the tax (guests will see this).
  4. Enter the amount in percentage.
  5. Tick the box if you prices include this figure and it is merely for breakdown purposes.
  6. Click Create this Tax.

You can create as many taxes as you need, but bear in mind that they are set on an account level – so all taxes will be applied to all reservation totals. You can’t choose which accommodation or when to apply these.

Let’s see that in action:

Remember: Taxes affect the total price on past bookings that are already entered into the system. So if your bookings already have tax included in the totals, you’ll either need to adjust the price in the reservation or create an inclusive tax environment.
